About the Exploring Unbelief

Exploring Unbelief is an independent research project examining what people mean when they describe themselves as atheists, agnostics, skeptics, or lacktheists through surveys and discourse rather than assumption.

Our survey is a pilot research project exploring how people assess arguments for and against the existence of deities.

Despite its name, the project welcomes participants across religious and philosophical perspectives and does not ask respondents to endorse a predetermined conclusion.

Participants review philosophical arguments and rate their persuasiveness. Our aim is to better understand how people evaluate competing arguments and how those assessments vary across different perspectives.

You do not need formal training in philosophy to participate. We encourage thoughtful, candid responses based on your own assessment of each argument.

Respect for participants is central to the project. We are committed to protecting respondents’ privacy and maintaining the confidentiality of their responses. Further information about participation and data handling is provided before the survey begins.
